Patron Saint of Stroke Survivors
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque is the patron saint of stroke survivors. She was born in 1647 and died on September 16th, 1690. Her feast day is celebrated on May 30th.
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in France in 1647. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and suffered from various ailments for most of her life. In addition to being afflicted with blindness, she also suffered from a number of other illnesses including tuberculosis, fevers and bleeding ulcers. She spent much of her time praying and reading religious texts such as The Imitation of Christ by Thomas Kempis.
In 1673, she received her first vision from Jesus in which He explained that He desired an increase in devotion to His Sacred Heart. This vision led to the establishment of the devotion known as Sacred Heart Devotion which involves praying for others through prayer novenas (daily prayers). In addition to this devotion, she also established another devotion known as the “Marian Year” which is a series of prayers including novenas and special devotions dedicated to Mary during each month of the year beginning on December 8th and ending on November 2nd (the Feast Day
Patron Saint of Stroke Survivors: St. Peregrine
St. Peregrine was born in the 14th century and lived during the time of the plague. When he was only fifteen years old, he found himself infected with the disease. He was so ill that doctors gave up on him and recommended that his relatives should remove all hope of recovery and prepare for his death.
Fortunately for St. Peregrine, he had a strong will to live and refused to give up on life despite being in constant pain and discomfort from his illness. He also refused to give up on God’s mercy even though the plague had taken away many of his friends and family members who died from it.
St. Peregrine’s faithfulness led him to become known as one of the most popular saints in history because he was able to overcome such a terrible disease through prayer, faith, and hope in God’s mercy despite being at death’s door many times during his life!

A novena is a nine-day prayer service. It is a particularly good way of asking God for special favors because it is believed that He works in nine different ways on the ninth day.
