Somewhere around the age of twelve or thirteen, we learn one of life’s hardest truths: every choice has consequences. Every word spoken sets into motion a series of events that can affect our lives and the lives around us. It’s a powerful thing to understand, and it’s important to take time to reflect on the paths we’ve taken, the choices we’ve made, and the direction our actions have brought us. Let’s start by asking God for forgiveness – Prayer for regret.

prayer for regret and guilt
Dear God,
I’m sorry for all the things I’ve done wrong in my life. I regret that I have hurt others and myself by my selfishness and thoughtlessness. I know that this is not the way to live and I am truly sorry for my actions. Please forgive me for the bad things in my past and help me to be a better person in the future. Thank you for listening to my prayer.
Dear God,
I’m sorry. I’ve been a terrible person for so long, and I can’t even look myself in the mirror anymore.
I know that my actions have hurt others and myself, and even though it’s not your fault that I’m such a terrible person, I want to make things right.
Please help me turn over a new leaf and start acting like the person You want me to be. Thank you for hearing this prayer, Lord.
Dear Lord,
I stand before you today with the deepest regret for the things I have done. My life has not been lived in accordance with your wishes, and I am sorry for that. I ask for forgiveness and guidance as I seek to make meaningful changes in my life.
Please guide me on my journey toward a more moral and righteous path, one that aligns with your will for all of us. Give me strength to do what is right, even when it is difficult or unpopular. Please help me remember your love and grace so that I may be able to forgive myself and others when necessary.
Help me see those around me as fellow travelers on this journey of life, and not as enemies or obstacles to be overcome. Grant me wisdom so that I can discern how best to use my gifts and talents for the benefit of others rather than myself. With gratitude in my heart, thank you for all that you have given me these past years (or months), even when it was difficult or painful at times.
And finally: please let there be no more regrets!

Prayer for regret
Dear God,
I am so sorry for all the times I have done wrong. I want to make a change in my life and be more like you. Please forgive me for all of my sins and for being so selfish.
I promise that from now on I will do what is right and good, not just for myself but also for others. I want to be a better person than I was yesterday so please help me achieve this goal by giving me your guidance and wisdom.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
Dear Lord,
I am so sorry for the way I have treated others in my life. I realize that everyone has their own problems and struggles, and that I have been very judgmental of those around me. I am deeply regretful for the time when I made fun of a friend because she was overweight. And how could I ever forget the time that I told my sister that she looked like a donkey? To think about how much pain these words caused her breaks my heart.
Please forgive me, God, for all the ways that I have hurt others by speaking poorly to them or even just thinking poorly about them. Please give me the strength to learn from this experience, so that in the future I may treat people with kindness and respect regardless of their appearance or status in society.
Amen
I regret what I did, and I’m sorry for it.
I know that this is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.
It is not a mistake that can be undone, but it is one which can be made right.
I ask for forgiveness in taking advantage of you and your kindness.
