How To Use It
- Print out this page for each book that you want to study.
- Start by reading through the entire book of scripture once without writing anything down (just enjoy it). Then go back through each chapter and highlight any passages that stand out to you. Write down a few notes about these passages and why they stand out – what do they say? What do they mean? Do they have any application to your life?
- Next go through each chapter again and make marks where there are verses that seem significant or relevant to your life right now (it can be anything from quotes that speak truth into your struggles, ideas that inspire change, etc.). Write down any thoughts or insights on how these verses relate specifically to your life right now – what does this verse mean for me today? How does this apply directly.

Just like every other task we do as adults, if we can break it down into concrete steps that are easy to understand and follow, the process is much less intimidating. Philippians 2:5–8
Let’s look at what the Bible says about the mind of Christ:
- Philippians 2:5–8._Paul tells us that we should have the same mind as Christ. He also says that Christ humbled himself, was willing to die for us, and obeyed his Father. To be like Christ means to humble oneself, be willing to die for another person and obey one’s authority (in this case God).
- John 17:5._In this verse Jesus says he didn’t come into existence by himself but came from God and he worshipped God even while on earth. Jesus would always consider himself inferior to his Father in heaven and subservient to him at all times._
Philippians 1:27
Philippians 1:27 says, “For this reason I always thank God for you because of the grace given to me.”
In this verse, Paul is thanking God for what has been done through them to others. This should make us thankful as well because we are called to reflect the same attitude as Paul in our own lives. We are called to be thankful for what God has done through us and our actions towards others.
This verse also reminds us of how much we have been blessed by Christ and his sacrifice on our behalf. It reminds us that if we are not thankful for what he did for us, then we will never be able to enjoy what awaits those who belong to him!
Philippians 3:12-14
12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
13 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,

3RD QUARTER-IN THE CRUCIBLE WITH CHRIST
Our Creator, the one in whom “we live, and move, and have our being” (Acts 17:28), suffered in humanity in ways that none of us ever could. We only experience our own griefs, our own sorrows; at the cross He bore “our griefs, and carried our sorrows” (Isa. 53:4)—all of them. It’s the most amazing act in all cosmic history.
With that background (that of the crucified God lifted up before us), we will for the next few months seek to better comprehend the incomprehensible—our own suffering, the sufferings of Christians, of those committed to Christ. We make no claims to have all the answers or even many; we’re claiming only that “God is love” (1 John 4:8) and that although these things happen, we can trust God despite them and, indeed, grow in grace through them, no matter how painful the process.

Our lessons are an attempt to help us work through the inevitable suffering we all face in a world full of sin. We will try to show that pain, suffering, and loss don’t mean that God has abandoned us. Through Jesus and the hope He offers, purpose can be found in what seems meaningless and purposeless and that we can trust the promise that “all things work together for good to those who love God” (Rom. 8:28, NKJV.

Ask questions about what you read in your Bible or what someone says during the lesson. This helps you to think about what you’re learning so that you can remember it later on when needed. For example, if someone tells you something new about Jesus, ask yourself why they think it’s true or how it connects with other things they’ve said before. Ask yourself what it means for your life too!
