rPrayer For Supplication Example

Prayer is the most important weapon of a Christian. The Christian prays to God, who listens to his prayers and supplies his needs. What we have said about God could be more clear if we examined it in prayer. Prayer is necessary in order to draw near to God and make our requests known to him. We should pray not only when facing the problem, but also when things are calm. Some Christians tend to forget about prayer when times are easy and relax, but then they realize what they have lost. They see how much outside situations influence them and that their issues appear from nowhere or disappear into nowhere. They see how unstable everything is and how often opposite sides of issues take place. We must not forget about prayer, as it is one of the many steps to reach our goal – a future life with Jesus Christ in heaven for eternity.

This is a prayer for supplication. These prayers for our time serve as an extra step in asking for God’s help, and can add to any prayer of petition, thanksgiving or intercession. They are said after the ordinary prayers, following the “Our Father.”

One of the key tactics of prayer is supplication. Supplication is a type of prayer that has been taught in Scripture and was then proven to be effective by the life of Daniel the prophet. In fact, supplication became the everyday way Daniel lived his life as he prayed to God.

First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,

Ephesians 6:18
With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Ephesians 6:19
and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,

1 Kings 8:45
then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause

Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
And give heed to the voice of my supplications!

Psalm 143:1
A Psalm of David.

Give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!

Jeremiah 36:7

Philippians 1:4
always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all,

Daniel 9:23
At the beginning of your supplications the command was issued, and I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed; so give heed to the message and gain understanding of the vision.

If you use the word “supplication” in regular conversation, you are either 1) trying to sound spiritual, 2) from the 19th century, or 3) talking about prayer.

“Supplication” is an old-fashioned word for request, most often used in old literature in the context of weary pilgrims or tortured prisoners. No surprise, the verb “supplicate” originates from England in the 14th and 15th centuries as an Anglicized form of the Latin word supplicatus, which means “to kneel.” Its Middle English definition was “to pray humbly; to entreat or petition humbly.”

Supplication is a request. And if the request is made to God, it becomes a prayer.

However, supplications aren’t those quick prayers at dinnertime or bedtime. In a supplication, the requester asks God for something from a place of humility and desperation—from an acute awareness of inferiority and need. This prayer is not a groveling from self-loathing, nor rubbing the genie lamp, as if God were required to meet his wishes. This prayer is humble.

Humility is crucial to answered prayers. Every time Jesus encountered humble, desperate people, He immediately met their needs. In Mark 5 alone, Jesus heals the demoniac, raises Jairus’ daughter from the dead, and eradicates a woman’s 12-year hemorrhage. None of these requests were too hard or too demanding for Him. He willingly met them with compassion and power.

When we’re humble before God, we acknowledge our sinful condition as well as God’s holiness. Humble people pray with right motives (James 4:1-3). We will pray on behalf of other people (that’s called intercession). We will believe in God’s wisdom and timing because we won’t presume to understand God’s overarching plan.

supplication prayer for pandemic

In recent days, as COVID-19 has been declared a global pandemic and countries have taken urgent measures to stem the spread of infection, I wish I could say that my first impulse has been to pray. It’s probably more honest to say that I’ve obsessively refreshed my feeds.

The crisis is urgent, and I feel powerless. But perhaps feeling small is the best reminder to pray. Prayer is how we actively practice believing, so simply, so confidently, that God has the whole world in his hands. It’s where we “let petitions and praises shape our worries into prayers, letting God know our concerns” (Phil. 4:6–7, The Message). Prayer is never the last resort of God’s people. It is our first point of action.

With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of 20 prayers to pray during this pandemic. Each one addresses the specific needs of a specific community. I’m fortunate to be a part of a church with many medical professionals, some of whom gave me advice on how best to pray for them at this time. I’ve included their responses here. I’ve also tried to think broadly about how the rest of us are impacted by the current crisis.

This list isn’t comprehensive, of course, but it’s a good place to start. My hope is that it can provide words for us as we pray collectively (if also virtually!) as a church body. We believe there is a God who bends his ear to listen, and so we pray.

Lord Jesus Christ our God, You Who created human beings with utter goodness, the healer of our souls and bodies, heed now the supplication of Your children, and save us from the impeding threat against the world. For this affliction has spread ferociously and the fear of death has surrounded us. Many have suffered and many have passed on to repose, and there is none to save us, except You, O Lord.

We know, Merciful Lord, that all this will cultivate our faith, as we implore you, crying out in utter repentance. Undo, O Lord, the dangerous effects of the virus and heal all people, as a most Gracious Lord. For those, who repose in peace, give rest in Your heavenly abode. Grant peace to the world, so that all people know that You are the Only God, and your faithful are not bound by death, but live forever.

For You are our hope and our whole life is in Your benevolent hands, and to You we give glory, as well as to the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
