Bible verses about identity in christ
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2.
“And the Lord said to him, “Go through the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it.”” – Ezekiel 9:4.
John 8:44: “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
Romans 8:15-17: “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out ‘Abba’ Father.’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
1 John 3:1-3: “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him.”
“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, ‘I believed, so I spoke.’ We also believe and therefore speak.
- Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
- Galatians 6:14: “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
- Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Identity in christ meaning
Identity in Christ is a study of the biblical doctrine of justification by faith. It is also a defense of that doctrine against its critics. In this sense, Identity in Christ is an apologetic work, as well as a work on theology and ethics.
In Chapter One we will briefly consider what it means to be justified before God. In Chapters Two through Four we will look at the nature of faith and how it relates to justification. In Chapters Five through Seven we will discuss how obedience relates to justification. In Chapter Eight we will consider the meaning of our identity in Christ, and in Chapter Nine we will consider some practical implications for our lives as Christians based on our understanding of justification by faith alone through grace alone because of Christ alone.”
Identity in Christ is a personal study of the Bible that can change your life. You may have heard others speak of “Identity in Christ” or “Identity Theft,” but what does it mean to have a new identity as a Christian?
This course will take you through the book of Ephesians, chapter 2 where Paul teaches about what it means to be in Christ. He says that we are “dead” and “alive”, “foolish” and “wise”, sinners and saints. He also gives us five things we must do with these new identities: 1) We must know who we are (1:18-19); 2) We must not return to our old ways (2:1-3); 3) We must stand firm against evil (2:4-6); 4) We must no longer live for ourselves but for Christ (2:7-9); 5) We must walk in love and purity (2:10-17).
This study will challenge you and help you grow as you learn more about who God has created you to be!
The Bible never uses the word “identity” in this way. The Greek word for identity is “eidos.” It refers to appearances or outward appearances. In other words, it refers to a person’s self-image or how they see themselves.
The Bible teaches us that we are created in God’s image; however, this does not mean that we have an eternal soul that lives on after death. Rather, it means that we are made in God’s image and likeness (see Genesis 1:26–27). This means that we have the potential to be like God (see Ephesians 4:24). The question is whether or not we will choose to live out that potential by allowing Christ to transform our hearts and minds through His Word and Spirit (see 2 Corinthians 3:18).
Identity in Christ is a term that refers to the doctrine that Christians are united with Jesus Christ and indwelt by the Holy Spirit. When a person accepts Christ as their savior, they become part of God’s family; they become a child of God. The Bible says that we are all sinners and we need a Savior. Jesus Christ died for our sins so that we would have a relationship with God through Him. We believe that salvation is only through Jesus Christ. When we accept Him as our Savior, we receive His Spirit, which gives us new life (Romans 8:2). This is not just about being forgiven for our sins; it is about receiving eternal life through Jesus Christ (John 10:10).
When you accept Christ as your Savior, you are given eternal life (John 3:16). You are no longer condemned to death; instead, you have been given everlasting life! You will live forever in Heaven with God if you continue to follow Him and obey His commandments (Revelation 21:7).
Identify yourself: Your identity is not defined by your past, your family background, or your current status. It’s what God says about you.
When God looks at you, He sees someone who has been made brand new. He sees a child of the King!
You are a child of God and His masterpiece!
Children of God:

2 – Are forgiven by God (1 John 1:9)
