The Bible stresses the need of maintaining an inward calm. Those unfamiliar with the Bible may be perplexed by the relevance of this. An unruffled demeanor is crucial for Christians because it is the one factor that determines the strength of our connections with our Lord and Savior, with other people, and with ourselves.
Psalm 62:5 instructs us to remain still before the Lord, and the Bible says that those who do so find joy in life (Proverbs 12:25). Peacemaking and keeping a low profile are qualities that might help you become closer to God.

How To Cultivate A Gentle And Quiet Spirit
How To Cultivate A Gentle And Quiet Spirit
The spirit of gentleness is the first and most important element in the spiritual life. It is like the soil which receives all other virtues, without which they cannot grow. Without gentleness we cannot pray, for our prayers would be cold and lifeless; we could not love God and our neighbour as we should do, if we had not the spirit of humility; we could not offer ourselves to God as a sacrifice of holocaust, if our hearts were not softened by gentleness; we could not be led by the Holy Ghost, because He would find no place in us where He could dwell.
Gentleness does not consist in softness or weakness; it is a virtue which makes us strong and courageous against everything that might hurt us. It enables us to bear patiently with ourselves and with others; it gives us strength to forgive injuries received from others, even though they may have been done through malice or premeditation; it gives us courage to resist temptations against virtue, even when they are very strong, since it teaches us that self-control can come only from within ourselves by a certain inward peace and serenity of mind which disposes us favorably towards everything good and holy.
There is a place in your heart where you can be gentle and quiet. You don’t have to be loud or aggressive to get what you want. You can be gentle and quiet, and still be heard.
There are many ways to cultivate a gentle and quiet spirit:
Take time for silence and solitude. This is essential for any spiritual practice, but it’s especially important for cultivating a gentle and quiet spirit. When we spend time alone with ourselves, we can hear our own thoughts without distraction or interruption from others. We can listen to our intuition and inner wisdom more clearly. We can feel at peace within ourselves, rather than always being on the go or rushing around trying to keep up with everything that’s going on around us. It helps us come into alignment with our true selves, so we don’t need external validation to feel good about who we are or what we’re doing in life; we know who we are right now because of how we feel inside ourselves.
Be mindful when interacting with others. When talking with others, instead of focusing on what they’re saying (which often doesn’t make sense anyway), focus on how they’re saying it — their tone of voice, their facial expressions; the emotion behind their words;
How To Cultivate A Gentle And Quiet Spirit
I have been thinking about the gentle spirit recently. This is not a new topic for me, but I have been thinking about it more and more lately. It has been on my mind as I have been reading about some of the things that are happening in our country, as well as around the world.
I am not talking about being passive or being silent when there are wrongs being committed or injustices occurring. I am talking about cultivating a gentle spirit that works toward peace, love and kindness in a world where there is so much anger, fighting and hatred. I believe this is something we all need to work on — both men and women.
I think my turning point came when I read an article by Karen Ehman titled “Cultivating A Gentle And Quiet Spirit” which was published in the January 2017 issue of The Gospel Coalition magazine (Issue 36). In this article she talks about how we can cultivate a gentle spirit through meditation on God’s Word and prayer:
The Psalms are filled with examples of meditating on God’s word to cultivate both a heart for God and a heart for others (Psalm 119:36; Psalm 1
- Be mindful of your words and actions.
Be mindful of your thoughts and feelings.
- Be mindful of how you spend your time.
The first step in cultivating a gentle and quiet spirit is to ask for it. Some people think that the answer to their prayers will come from somewhere else, but God has placed the answers within us.
In order to receive our answers from God, we must ask for them. In prayer, we can ask Him to guide us, teach us and show us His will for our lives. We can also ask Him to give us strength and wisdom so that we can follow His will when it doesn’t match what we want.
The second step in cultivating a gentle and quiet spirit is to be patient with yourself. Patience means having the ability to wait without getting frustrated or losing hope when things are taking longer than expected or as planned. It also means being able to endure difficult situations without complaining or becoming angry with God or others involved in those situations.
Patience is often difficult because we want results now — yesterday! But patience requires us to look beyond the present moment and focus on what lies ahead: our goals, dreams and aspirations; those things that are worth waiting for because they’re important enough that they’re worth sacrificing what’s happening right now in order for them to happen eventually — someday down the road
When the Bible talks about quiet spirit, it is not speaking of a lack of activity. There are many people in the Bible who were anything but quiet. In fact, some of them did not live very quietly at all. But many times in the Word we read that being still and quiet before God is a way to achieve peace and gain strength for our lives.
Isaiah 39:8
This verse is a perfect example of how God can use your silence to speak His truth. When you’re quiet, you will be able to hear what He has to say—and it could very well change the way you see life.
Psalm 62:5-6
“Be still and know that I am God.”
- Psalm 62:5-6
In this world, there are many things that can make us anxious. Often, we feel like we have no control over what happens in our life and the lives of those around us. But God says to us: “Be still.” In other words, don’t worry about anything! He has it all under control. The only thing we need to do is trust in Him! As Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:7–8 (NIV), “God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power… for battle.”
Psalm 29:11
The quiet spirit is a characteristic of Christian life. It is an attitude beneficial for prayer. In the Bible, the Lord said, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalms 46:10). The quiet spirit is a gift from God to His children who are willing to wait upon Him in silence and listen for His voice.
James 3:13-18
James 3:13-18
`13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct his deeds in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.’
1 Peter 3:4
In 1 Peter 3:4, we read that the Holy Spirit is like wind, which is a symbol of life. Wind is also a symbol of spirit. The scriptures tell us that the human soul is a living thing (Genesis 2:7; Ezekiel 18:20; Matthew 16:17). The Bible says that it’s not dead or inanimate like we think it is—it’s alive!
The soul is also considered to be part of our inner person or self. Romans 6:23 tells us that when we become Christians, our old self dies and another one rises up in its place—a new creation! This means our mind has been changed from what it once was into something new.
Isaiah 30:15
Isaiah 30:15 states, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and trust shall be your strength.” In the Old Testament, Isaiah was a prophet who spoke about a quiet spirit.
In this verse, Isaiah gives advice to those who are hard-working (such as farmers) or otherwise stressed out. He tells them that they should take time to rest and restore their energy, because it will help them do better work when they return to their tasks.
Quiet spirit is a characteristic of Christian life and an attitude beneficial for prayer.
Quiet spirit is a characteristic of Christian life and an attitude beneficial for prayer. The phrase “quiet spirit” (Psalm 51:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:11) is often used in the Bible to describe a person who seeks God and allows God to be at work in his or her life. This character trait can be cultivated by asking God for help and growing in one’s relationship with Jesus Christ, who is our source for peace (John 16:33).
Conclusion
Each of these scriptures provides a different example of how to maintain a quiet spirit. The path to achieving this kind of attitude isn’t easy, but with focus and determination, anyone can achieve it.
