Bible Verses About Hunger And Poverty

As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11Whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Some sat in darkness and gloom; prisoners suffering in iron chains they rebelled against the words of God, scorning the counsel of the Most High. So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; he saved them from their distress. He led them out of darkness and gloom

The Bible is filled with passages that speak about hunger, poverty, and the poor. The Bible is also filled with passages about God’s concern for the poor. Here are some of my favorite verses that speak about this subject

Bible Verses About Hunger And Poverty

Bible Verses About Hunger And Poverty

Many people are poor and are suffering from hunger.

The Bible has a lot to say about poverty and wealth. It even tells us how we can help those in need.

Here are some Bible verses on poverty and wealth:

Proverbs 14:23 | All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

Proverbs 19:17 | He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Psalm 41:1 | Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the LORD’s eyes that person is highly favored.

Luke 12:33 | Sell your possessions and give to those in need. You will have treasure in heaven, and help others by so doing.”

Proverbs 22:2 | The rich and poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all.

The Bible is full of passages about poverty, wealth and work. The Bible also contains many verses about the importance of caring for the poor.

Here are some important Bible verses about poverty and wealth:

“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” (Luke 12:15)

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:33-

The Bible is filled with passages about poverty and wealth. But there are also many Bible verses about hunger and food, including those that speak directly to the Christian’s responsibility to share with those less fortunate.

In fact, Jesus Himself was very explicit about this issue: “Truly I tell you,” He said in Matthew 25:31-46, “whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”

Here are some examples of Biblical passages dealing with hunger:

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

“Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy” (Psalm 126:5).

“Give them something to eat!” he told his disciples. They said, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to me.” Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up toward heaven, gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples who distributed them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied (Luke 9:10-17).

  8. “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)

“In that day you will call your brethren, saying: ‘I will go to my holy ones; I will go to my father’s house.’ And you shall come to the land which I gave to Jacob, the land where your fathers lived; and there you shall be buried. You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day.”

—Isaiah 41:8-9 (ESV)

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.”—Revelations 21:1-2 (ESV)

Bible Verses About Hungry

In honor of World Hunger Day, we’re taking a look at some of the Bible’s most moving passages on hunger.

Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:35-36 are particularly powerful: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Hungry.

Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

The Bible is full of verses about hunger. Here are some of the most popular:

Matthew 5:6: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Matthew 6:11-13: Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Luke 4:2: Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting 40 days and 40 nights, he was hungry.

John 4:7-14: A woman approached Jesus and asked him to heal her daughter. Jesus told her that his mission was to heal people spiritually rather than physically; however, he offered her some food anyway if she would go back home and give it to her daughter with the words “this is your healing.” The woman went home and did so. When she returned with a different attitude (i.e., one of faith), Jesus healed her daughter instantly before her eyes!

“I have more than enough of everything and I am rich. I have all I need. I have been generous to you, but I will be even more so in the future. As it is written, ‘He who gathered much did not have too much; and what he gathered was dispersed.’ To sum it up, all through the ages, when God’s people come to him for help, God always has been generous to them.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8-11 (NLT)

1.

Jesus answered them, “Do you not yet understand? Are you able to comprehend that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 16:11-12)

2.

How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you – when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me

Bible Verses Hunger

The Bible does not have a lot of verses about hunger, but there are some. These Bible verses will help you understand what God has to say about the subject.

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ Then they said to Him, ‘Lord, give us this bread always.’ And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.'” (John 6:32-35)

“For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures passing through life. But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared . . . He saved us by means of the washing of regeneration and renewal in Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:3-5)

The Bible is full of verses about hunger. In fact, poverty and hunger were major concerns for the prophets, who were often sent by God to speak to kings and rulers about these issues. The prophets warned that if people continued to ignore their plight, they would suffer God’s judgment.

Here are some examples:

“You have made me hear words of hatred, but I have not received them; I have considered your deeds, but I will render you justice.” (Amos 5:10)

“Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter — when you see the naked, to clothe him…? In this way they will remember and be ashamed no more.” (Isaiah 58:7-8)

“But as for me, when they were sick — my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; my prayer returned to my own bosom. As for me, I said, ‘This is the consequence of my pride and my iniquity!’ For the Lord had kept silence; he did not give me a reply from his mouth; yet his silence was worse than his speech! But what can I do?

“But a person who is hungry and thirsty for righteousness will be filled.” Matthew 5:6

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” 2 Corinthians 4:17

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, ‘Where is your God?’ These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng. Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:1-5

“And you will be hungry. But encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14)

“So I summoned a famine on the land; I broke every last dam and spring of water.” (Amos 4:7)

“The righteous man is rescued from trouble, and it comes on the wicked instead.” (Proverbs 11:8)

“Your own strength is your best weapon for success in anything you do, whether it is sports or business or just daily living. So don’t rely on anyone else to provide your strength or wisdom.” (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

“Remember me, O my God, for good; O Lord, please bless me!” (Psalm 25:21)

“I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me.” (Psalm 40:17)

  1. Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” (Matthew 4:4)
  2. “For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.” (John 6:55)
  3. “In their hunger they will go after strange gods, until they are consumed.” (Deuteronomy 28:37)
  4. “The Lord says, ‘I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem again. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth and the Mountain of the Lord of Hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.'” (Zechariah 8:3)
  5. “All who see it shout for joy; they raise their voices, they cry aloud; they say among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.'” (Psalm 96:10)

6.”But if anyone has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat.” (Revelation 2:17)
