We Christians have been expecting Jesus’s return for 2,000 years. We had better get ready, since it’s nearly here. Jesus promised to return “on the final day” long before he was killed. What does it even imply, though? When Christ returns, how will the world look then? How can I get myself prepared? In addition, how will I be notified? These texts from the Old Testament that speak of the resurrection will be discussed in this article.

Jesus’ resurrection may serve as motivation to push through difficulties, gain wisdom from adversity, and start afresh. Jesus tells his followers in the last chapter of John’s gospel, “I am the resurrection, and the life.” This is both a declaration of reality and a promise from God to those who put their trust in Jesus, since no one else had ever risen from the dead or promised to do so before Jesus’ resurrection from the tomb.

Bible Verses About Resurrection Of The Dead Kjv

There are many Bible verses about the resurrection of the dead. Here are a few of them:

But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.” ( (Ephesians 4:7-8)

For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” ( (1 Corinthians 15:53-54)

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead,… ( (1 Corinthians 15:17-20)

(1 Corinthians 15:12)

There will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

(Acts 24:15)

The hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

(John 5:28-29)

1 Corinthians 15:12-22

Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, our preaching is empty and your faith also is empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied.

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterwards

In Matthew 19:28, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

In Revelation 20:4-6, we read that Jesus Christ will return to earth with His saints and destroy the wicked. The dead will be judged according to their deeds (Revelation 20:12). Then those who are found worthy will receive eternal life (Revelation 21:3-5) while those who are not will be thrown into hell (Revelation 20:11-15).

“The Lord is not slow to fulfil his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.” 1 Corinthians 15:17-19

“The dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:52

“We know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” 2 Corinthians 5:1

Resurrection Verses In The Old Testament

The following is a list of resurrection verses from the Old Testament. These verses should be considered in light of the fact that Jesus was resurrected from the dead in fulfillment of these scriptures.

Ezekiel 37:1-14 – The valley of dry bones

Daniel 12:1-4 – Resurrection and Judgment

Isaiah 26:19 – Resurrection and Judgment

Psalm 16:10-11 – Resurrection and Judgment

Psalm 49:15-16 – Resurrection and Judgment

Psalm 73:23-24 – Resurrection and Judgment

Psalm 88:10-12 – Resurrection and Judgment

Isaiah 25:7 – Resurrection and Judgment

Resurrection is the idea that a dead person can be brought back to life. It is a central tenet of the Christian faith, but also a concept that exists in other religions and cultures.

The Old Testament contains several references to resurrection. But these are different from what we think of as resurrection today. Instead, they are more like reincarnation or metempsychosis (the transfer of the soul at death to a new body).

The first mention of resurrection in the Bible comes from Genesis:

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel…’When he lies with you again, he will surely rise up against you; then you will fall down together, because he has done this to you once already.'” (Genesis 3:15-16)

In this passage God promised that Eve’s offspring would defeat Satan’s offspring. Some see this as God promising mankind would one day be resurrected after death so that we could defeat Satan for good by defeating death itself. That’s one interpretation (and it’s not all that far-fetched), but it’s not really clear from this passage alone whether Adam and Eve were actually supposed to die again and come

The Bible is filled with resurrection stories. In fact, the first chapter of the book of Genesis contains three different accounts of resurrection. Here are seven more:

  1. The account of Abraham’s servant (Genesis 24)
  2. The story of Joseph’s rise to power in Egypt (Genesis 37-50)
  3. The story of Moses’ mother who places her baby son in a basket among the reeds on the banks of the Nile River (Exodus 1)
  4. The account of Jonah’s encounter with death at sea (Jonah 1)
  5. The story of Daniel in the lion’s den (Daniel 6)
  6. The account of Elijah being taken up into heaven (“rapture” style) (2 Kings 2:11)
  7. The story about Jesus’ crucifixion and subsequent resurrection from the dead (Matthew 27; Mark 15; Luke 24; John 19)

Isaiah 26:19

Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

Ezekiel 37:1-14

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones…And he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost: we are cut off from our parts. And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will open your graves…and I will put my spirit within you…and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord…and will bring you into the land…and ye shall be my people…for I have spoken it.”Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen…and they shall be mine:

Old Testament Resurrection Verses

1 Samuel 28:12-19

After the Philistines had taken the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 13 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. 14 On the following morning, when they rose early, behold, Dagon had fallen on its face on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and put it back in its place. 15 But when they rose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on its face on the ground before the ark of the LORD; only its head was left to him. 16 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house tread on Dagon’s head anymore. 17 But since then, though you are careful to keep all this commandment, if you turn away from me and worship other gods and serve them, 18 I declare that even as surely as I live, all Israel will be destroyed from under heaven because of you. The Lord will become angry with Israel
