God expects us to follow Him and act like Jesus in the way we live our lives. But there is a lot of pressure to conform to this world – to only listen to popular music, drink alcohol, watch objectionable TV shows, and spend time on social media. We want to be a part of the world around us and be accepted. They call it being “cool” but it’s really not that cool at all. God can’t truly bless us if we are conforming to things that align with the world’s values.

Following Jesus Is Not Easy Bible Verses

1 Corinthians 1:27-29 ESV

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that he may nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. But by his doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

The Bible is filled with passages that describe how we should live our lives and what we should do. It’s important to understand that Jesus wasn’t saying that following God is easy. He was saying it’s the right thing to do.

Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword” (Matthew 10:34).

Jesus also said, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me” (Matthew 10:37–38).

The Bible says, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:26).

Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Matthew 4:19)

Jesus said to him, “If anyone wants to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Mark 8:34)

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.” – Titus 2:11-12

“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9

“For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing and abominations. In all this they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation…” – Romans 13:13-14

“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2

“For I consider that our present sufferings are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed in us.” – Romans 8:18
