A lot of times, when we speak about pregnancy, it is always in terms of joy, comfort and beauty. We do not really consider pain or the physical strain a woman has to endure. Although the Bible clearly teaches that all things work together for good to those who love God, most woman hate labor pains. This is because they feel the pain physically and emotionally.
Bible Verses on Labor Through the bible scripture speaks about of labor pains. Some are positive about labor, as bringing about a new birth. It is important to realize, though, that some scriptures speak of labor in vain . The pain in childbirth has its parallel in our lives daily, so it is important to not let this pain overpower us: our trials and tribulations are nothing compared to those of the Lord Jesus Christ (Hebrews 2:18-19 [note: see also New Testament verses about pain , which would work if the name of your website isn’t dedicated to “Christ” specifically]).
Bible Verses About Labor
The Bible has many verses about labor, most of them in the book of Genesis.
In Genesis 2, God creates Adam and Eve. They are given dominion over all living things on Earth, but they must also work for their food.
In Genesis 3, God punishes Adam and Eve for disobeying him by making them sweat when they work. He also forbids them from eating from the Tree of Knowledge.
In Exodus 20:9-11, God commands his people to do no work on the Sabbath day except that which is necessary to keep themselves alive.
In Genesis 4:23-24 and 5:29, Cain works as a farmer while Abel tends flocks of sheep.
In Matthew 6:28-30, Jesus says that we should not worry about what we will eat or drink because God knows our needs better than we do.
In 1 Timothy 2:15-16, Paul says women should learn in silence and submission at home rather than speak in church meetings or teach men (1 Corinthians 14).
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”
-Exodus 20:8-11
“Six days you shall labor and do all your work.”
-Exodus 23:12
- “In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19)
- “For this reason I say to the unmarried and widows that it is good for them if they remain as I am; but if they do not have self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” (1 Corinthians 7:8-9)
- “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake.” (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
- “But if anyone does not provide for his own [needs] and especially those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” (1 Timothy 5:8)
- “Let him who steals steal no more; but rather
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due time we will reap, if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” – Galatians 6:9-10
“I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. This is why the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. And I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it back again. This commandment I received from My Father” (John 10:14-18).
Bible Verse About Labor In Vain
“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.”
Proverbs 10:4: “Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.”
Proverbs 12:24: “The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.”
Proverbs 14:23: “In all labor there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.”
“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” – Zechariah 4:6
- This is one of the most famous Bible verses about labor. It is often used as a reminder that God’s work is not done through our own efforts.
“You can’t do anything without me, and nothing will be accomplished without you.” – Meister Eckhart
- While this isn’t a direct quote from the Bible, it does encapsulate the idea behind many Bible verses about labor. When we try to do things in life without God, we’re wasting our time. We need Him in order to succeed at anything we do!
“I have labored too hard for my Lord for this.” – Martin Luther
God gave us the gift of life, and we have to take care of it. We have to protect our bodies from damage. We should eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and get proper rest.
But sometimes, even when we do everything right, we still get sick or injured. It doesn’t mean that we’re not doing anything right; it just means that bad things happen to good people. God is good, and he loves us very much. He doesn’t want us to suffer needlessly.
The Bible has many passages about being sick or injured (see Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Isaiah 1:5-6; James 5:14-16). Here are some verses about getting hurt while doing nothing wrong:
“I was dumbfounded at this; I kept quiet.” (Job 40:4)
“I will not argue with you anymore.” (Job 40:5)
“I cannot answer you as you deserve…” (Job 40:6)
Labor pains are the most frequent cause of hospital admission during pregnancy. Labor is a normal process that begins when your cervix begins to dilate and ends with the birth of your baby.
Labor pain is often described as a burning or dull ache, but it can also be sharp and excruciating. It can start in your lower back and move to your stomach and pelvis, but it’s possible for labor pain to radiate down one leg or up into your shoulder.
Early labor pains: These start after contractions begin, but before you have dilated 3 centimeters (cm). Early labor usually lasts several hours or days.
Active labor pains: These start after you’ve dilated 3 cm (1-2 inches) and continue until delivery. Active labor may last 12-24 hours or longer — depending on how quickly you’re progressing through it — but most women deliver within 18 hours of starting active labor.
“For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” (Luke 8:17)
“But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.” (Ezekiel 33:6)
“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” (2 Chronicles 15:7)
Bible Verse About Labor Pains
“In labor, in birth pangs, she opened the gates of life.” (Proverbs 21:21 ESV)
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” (Isaiah 55:12 ESV)
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 ESV)
“I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man. I know that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him. He who fears God will do this
Labor is a long and painful process. It can be agonizing and exhausting, but it’s also a miraculous thing to witness.
The Bible has a lot to say about childbirth — from the pain of labor, to the joy of welcoming a new baby into the world. Here are some of our favorite verses about labor pains in the Bible:

Matthew 12:11-12 (NIV) 11 When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her time has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 12 So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
Genesis 3:16 (NIV) 16 To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

Truly, truly, I say to you,[a] if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 21 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask[b] and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. 22 “I have told you these things in figures of speech.[c] The hour is coming when I
