As a Catholic and homeschooling parent, I have prayed to Our Lady for my children on numerous occasions. In fact, I have never known how to pray to any saint except through Our Lady. The novels and articles contained in this blog are mostly written out of the experiences of my own family, my own children.
Children are the hope and future of our world. They also have a special place in the heart of Mother Mary—the Spiritual Mother of the human race. The following prayer to our Lady for children is based on an old tradition, but one that continues to be practiced by many parents today:
Prayers to Our Lady are always welcome and never rejected. The Church has encouraged us to say the Angelus and Hail Mary. These prayers are so beautiful, helping in our praying because we’re aided by their meaning. For example, the Angelus poem encourages a prayerful spirit, as well as the contemplative practice of reflecting on the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, which happens to fall during the Advent season. Though at first it may seem challenging, even for a seasoned Catholic like myself, to utilize these prayers in a way consistent with the intention of their creation, it’s not as hard as you might think! I’m going to show you how easy it is to do!

A prayer to Mary, Mother of Jesus:
Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, your heart was pierced by a sword when you saw your son hanging on the cross. You watched him die and you did not leave him even after his death. Your faithfulness and love for him is a lesson for us. We ask you to pray for our children that they may grow in virtue and love; that they will be able to live their lives according to their baptismal promises; that they may be models of Christian living in their families and communities. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!

O Holy Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we are gathered here today to ask you to intercede with the Lord in our behalf.
We ask that you bless those who are sick and suffering. We ask that you protect the unborn children from being targeted by abortionists. We ask that you guide us in making decisions that will lead us away from sin and toward holiness. We ask that you help us to turn our hearts back toward God and away from material things.

We know that you love us and that you are always there for us. We know that you hear our prayers and that you are with us in times of need.
So we come to you now for help in this situation, mother Mary. We ask for your guidance and protection for our family as we go through this difficult time. We pray for strength, courage and faith during this difficult time. We pray that you will give us the wisdom to make the right decisions so that we can all be happy again.
We ask for your intercession on behalf of all those who are suffering from addiction, depression or other mental illnesses so that they may find healing and peace once again in their lives through Jesus Christ. Amen

Dear Blessed Virgin Mary, I come to you with a heavy heart. I am worried about the safety of my child and family members. Please help us by praying for us. Protect us from all evils that may try to harm us. Guide us in making good decisions and give us wisdom in times of confusion. Lord Jesus Christ has entrusted you with the care of his mother and you have been given great power from God so that no one can escape you or hide from you. You have power over everything in heaven and earth and nothing can be hidden from your sight. You are the Queen of heaven and on earth and all creation worships you because it is by your power that all things were created, exist, and continue to exist, You are so powerful that even the angels, saints, and all creatures obey you at once without delay as though they were but one person! The following is a prayer to protect your child:
“Dear Mother Mary, I come to you in this hour of need. Please protect my child from all harm and danger. Please intercede on behalf of my child and keep him safe from all evil forces. Keep him close to your heart and let only good things happen to him/her.”
If possible, say this prayer every day before going to bed and when you wake up in the morning. This prayer can also be said during an illness or if you feel that there is something wrong with your child.

Throughout the Church’s history you have helped Christians in times of trial, temptation and danger. Time and time again, you have proven to be the Refuge of sinners, the Hope of the hopeless, the Consoler of the afflicted, and the Comforter of the dying. We promise to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, your Son, to proclaim His Good News of God’s love for all people, and to work for peace and justice in our world.
