Many Christians struggle with anger. The Bible declares that anger is not of God, yet we live in a culture where it is so accepted that at times it enters the Church. At the same time, there are people who have lost their temper only to wish they could take back every hateful and hurtful thing they said.
People have different ways of dealing with their anger. There are some who yell, fight and even kill; others try to ignore their anger and even pretend as if nothing ever happened. And then there are people like you, who keep their anger bottled inside them until it becomes too much for them to handle.
Let’s take a step back and think about the utility of anger for a moment. Anger is usually a response to some other emotion, such as fear, hurt or shame. We get angry to send a message to someone or something that we are upset with. The problem comes when we don’t know how to remove ourselves from being angry. Until we remove ourselves from the anger, it will always seem like the cause is present and that our message isn’t doing any good.

Prayer for overcoming anger
Dear God,
I know that I have a problem with anger. It is something that I have struggled with for years. I pray that you will help me overcome this problem in my life and in my heart. Lord, please give me the strength to deal with my anger in a positive way. I ask that you would give me the ability to respond when others are angry with me in a calm and peaceful manner. I pray that you would help me to use my anger as a tool for change and growth rather than as an obstacle or barrier to progress.
I know that I need to forgive those who have hurt me so that I can move forward in life without being held back by the past. Lord, please help me forgive those who have wronged me so that they can be forgiven by You too! Help me become a person of peace so that others may see Your love in my life through how I live each day! Amen!
Prayer is an incredible tool for overcoming anger. It can help you to see things differently and to experience God’s comfort and peace.
So here are some prayers to help you overcome anger:
Prayer of Forgiveness
Lord Jesus Christ, I worship You alone as my Savior and Lord. I repent of my sins, asking forgiveness and cleansing through Your precious blood shed on Calvary’s cross. Come into my life, Son of God; forgive me of my sins; fill me with Your Holy Spirit; deliver me from the power of Satan; cleanse me from all unrighteousness; make me a child of God; be Lord over my life and guide me by Your Word and Spirit. Amen!
Lord, I confess that I am angry. I ask You to forgive me for being unkind and unloving. Help me to not allow my anger to control me but rather to control it so that it does not control me. Help me to be a blessing to those around me instead of cursing them with my words or actions. Lord, help me to love as You have loved us. Thank You for Your forgiveness and Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Prayers to overcome anger. We all know how it feels to be angry. It can be a very powerful emotion and it is important to learn how to deal with it properly. Anger is a direct result of fear and/or frustration. The Bible tells us that we have no right to judge others, because only God knows their true motives and intentions.
Before we can pray for someone who has angered us, we must first make sure that our own hearts are clean before God (see 1 John 1:9-10). It is also important that we pray only for those who want healing from God and not just for those who want revenge on another person.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:44 “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Jesus did not say that we should love our enemies while they are still being mean to us; instead He told us what to do once they stop being mean!

Prayer For Someone With Anger Issues
Lord Jesus,
I pray for the person with anger issues for which I am praying. Lord, You are the Healer of all things. You have power over sickness and disease. You know what it is like to be angry, yet You did not sin. You had every right to be angry, but You did not sin by allowing your anger to control you. Lord Jesus, I ask that You would help this person who is dealing with anger issues to understand their anger and how it affects them and those around them. Lord Jesus, I ask that You would help this person to find peace within themselves so that they may live in harmony with others without having to resort to violence or other negative actions that hurt others physically or emotionally. Lord Jesus, help this person to forgive those who have hurt them so that they can move forward in life with peace and joy knowing that they are forgiven by You and loved by You more than anyone else could love them! In Your name I pray, amen!
Dear God,
I pray for my friend _, who is dealing with so much anger. Please surround him with your love and peace as he learns to control his temper and deal with his emotions in a healthy way. I ask that you help him to forgive those who have hurt him in the past and show him how to let go of all the anger that he feels toward them now. Help him to realize that he does not have control over others or their actions, but he does have control over his own actions. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Prayer for someone with anger issues
Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me in your image and likeness. I pray that you would help me to be more like you. Help me to be forgiving when others hurt me, even when they don’t apologize or show remorse. Help me to forgive myself for my mistakes and failures. Help me to take responsibility for my actions and not blame others for them. I pray that you would help me to be patient with myself and others as we learn what it means to walk by faith and not by sight. Give me the wisdom and courage to ask for help when I need it, and the humility to accept it when it is offered in love. Forgive me for being prideful, impatient or angry toward anyone who has hurt me or caused me pain through their words or actions. I pray that you would give them peace as well so that they can also find healing from their pain through your grace alone, in Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
Dear Lord,
I come to you today asking for your help. I am begging for forgiveness and mercy. I know that I have failed you many times in the past and I ask that you forgive me for my sins. Father, please hear my prayer and help me through this difficult time in my life.
I have a friend who has anger issues and needs help. She has been in an abusive relationship before which caused her to have trust issues with men. She is not married and has no children but she needs some spiritual guidance in her life. Please give her the strength to get out of this situation so that she can find happiness with someone else. Father, please guide me on how to help her overcome these issues that she is having so that she can be happy again!
In Jesus name, Amen
Heavenly Father, You know the anger in my heart. You see it every time I lose my temper, every time I yell at my children, every time I react to another’s words with a harsh response. You know when I feel like I’m being treated unfairly, and You know when I get upset about things that really aren’t worth getting upset about.
But You also know the love in my heart too. You see me reaching out to those who are suffering; You see me comforting those who are hurting; You see me encouraging others through difficult times; You see me putting others before myself.
And because of this, Lord, I pray that you would help me walk in righteousness today as we face situations that may challenge our faith in you. In these moments let us remember that we are not alone in our struggles and let us turn our hearts to those who need encouragement and support today. Let us rise above our weaknesses and be the light in dark places so that others may see your love working through us and give glory to your name!
