There you will find an alphabetical list of all the hymns included in this volume. Under each entry is a list of key words that describe the subject matter or theme of that particular hymn. For example, if you want to find songs about peace, look under “Peace.” You will find “I Sing Peace,” “Peace Like a River” and many other fine songs on this topic.
I love to sing! It’s more than just a past time for me—it’s a passion. I’ve been singing nearly all my life, and it’s one of my greatest joys. If you’re like me, then you know that few things can kick off a celebration or express emotions quite like bursting into song (or humming along by yourself). That’s why I’ve curated this list of praise and worship songs that really speak to me and move my soul. These songs will be timeless favorites for many people, but if you’ve never heard them before then I encourage you to take the time to listen now. You’ll find that they are truly enduring pieces of music that will help you take your worshiping up another level.
God is Good All The Time
God is good all the time,
His love endures forever.
He’s got no favorites or races;
He loves from east to west.
How Great Thou Art
How Great Thou Art is a hymn based on the poem How Great Thou Art by Carl Boberg (1859–1940).
The lyrics read:
O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee; how great Thou art! How great Thou art! Then sings my soul with joy to Thee from day to night saying: “Glory to God on high!” and “Peace on earth.” For all things bright and beautiful for young and old for roadways through mountains high for fields of grain – O Lord how great thou art!
Because He Lives
“Because He Lives” is a modern song that was written in 1976 by Bill Gaither and his wife, Gloria Gaither. It was inspired by the 18th century hymn, “Because I Have Been Given Much,” which is included in our hymnal. The lyrics for this song were inspired by John 11:25-26 (KJV):
25Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Taking It Back
Taking It Back
This song is about taking control of your situation and making a statement that you are not going to let someone walk all over you. This song will make you feel empowered to stand up for yourself. The message is simple: don’t be afraid to speak up if someone is treating you badly, because sometimes it’s hard for people in power to listen. The lyrics say:”Well I’ve heard nothing but lies from those who claim they love me
And I’ve been shown nothing but hatred by those who claim they care
It’s time that we take back what belongs to us,
And show them how we live our lives.”
There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood
This hymn is a great way to lift up your praise in worship. It was written in 1868 by William J. Kirkpatrick and is an appropriate choice for many different types of worship occasions, including:
- Morning services
- Evening services
- Sunday school classes or other children’s programs (with some changes to the lyrics)
I Saw the Light
The song is a hymn of praise and worship, written by Hank Williams and first recorded by the Montgomery Brothers in 1949. It was later recorded by country singer Willie Nelson in 1972 and released on his album, “Yesterday’s Wine”. The lyrics describe a person who has realized that God is present in all aspects of his or her life and calls on others to join them in praising God. In 2000, CMT ranked it as the number 1 country gospel song of all time.[1]
When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder
When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder
Verse 1: When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there; when the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there for to answer for my sins, and meet with my God in heaven’s glory land.
Verse 2: Well I know that Jesus Christ is all my salvation and deliverer from sin; He is my rock, my strength and shield. My faithfulness has made me his child now and forevermore.
Verse 3: Come along with me all you who love our Lord Jesus Christ; come along with me ere it be too late to hear what he has said to you by his word today! Let us prepare ourselves by prayer that we may receive him into our hearts as he invites us this day.
Verse 4: See how they lay down their lives on earth so that they might receive a crown of life which God has promised them! They have received their reward already in full measure here on earth; yet even if they did not receive it here on earth still would they have been satisfied because they had laid down their lives and died for Christ’s sake anyways!
This Little Light of Mine!
The first verse of this song is about the power of faith. The second one is about the power of God, and the third one is about the power of the Holy Spirit. The fourth one talks about our church being a light to others, and then finally there’s a reference to “the three-in-one” in its fifth verse: “The Father and Christ in His glory/And Holy Ghost forever adoring.”

People Get Ready! Jesus is Coming!
This song was written by Curtis Mayfield and released on his 1970 album Back to the World. It was written in response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., with its lyrics focusing on the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The title was taken from a line from 2 Timothy 4:8: “Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.”
Praise can be expressed in many ways, but music is great for it!
One of the ways that we praise God is through music. Music has been around since the beginning of recorded history and it’s still going strong today! The problem with music is that people think it’s just something to listen to, but it can be so much more than that. When we sing praises and worship hymns, we remember God and all that He has done for us. We thank Him for His love and mercy towards us, as well as His guidance in our lives. There are many different types of music out there that you can choose from when trying to decide what kind would suit you best. Some are more upbeat while others tend towards being slower paced; however, no matter which one you choose I guarantee it’ll work wonders for your soul
As you can see, there is plenty of good music to listen to. If you hear some other songs that are not on this list that you like, share them with us. We would love to hear about them. Other than that, listen to some of these great songs and enjoy!
Hymns Of Praise And Thanksgiving
In the Christian tradition, hymns of praise and thanksgiving have been used in public worship since ancient times. They are usually sung as part of a liturgy, to give praise to God for his actions or to express a desire for the actions of God. In this way, all hymns of praise and thanksgiving, regardless of the religious tradition, may be considered as having a similar purpose: to praise God and thank him for his gift to humanity.
Hymns of praise and thanksgiving have also been used in non-religious contexts; for instance, several national anthems contain such lyrics – including The Star-Spangled Banner (1914), La Marseillaise (1795) and O Canada (1908).
Praise and Thanksgiving Hymn (Psalm 136)
1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
2 Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”
5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.
The following is a list of hymns that were specifically written to praise and thank God.
- All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all.
- Once to every man and nation comes the moment to decide, In the strife of Truth with Falsehood, for the good or evil side; Some great cause, God’s new Messiah or Satan’s self-spouse, Offers each the bloom or blight.
- Praise ye the Lord: Praise him in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. PRAISE HIM FOR HIS MIGHTY WORKS! Praise him for his wonders too numerous to count! Praise him with a trumpet sound! Praise him with an instrument of ten strings! Praise him with loud cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
